This Weeks Top 5 (according to and listened by me!)

In reverse order…..

Number 5
This is UK Grime Vol. 1 (Defenders)

A 40 track compilation of some of the UK’s top grime artists featuring Tinie Tempah, JME, Chipmunk, Lethal Bizzle and Boy Better Know.

£38.99 is a bit optimistic but at £7.99 for mp3 downloads its a steal!

Highlights include Too Many Men by Boy Better Know, Next Hype by Tempz and Shut Up by Fire Camp (which uses Benga’s 26 Basslines as backing) but to name a few out of the 40.

Number 4
MOS Sound Presents Mixed – Scratch Perverts (Ministry of Sound)

Scratch Perverts are undoubtedly pioneers of the compilation mix, notorious for their collective DJ battles and competition style; they hold two consecutive World DMC Team titles, Plus One’s World DMC Champion and World Vestax Champion titles, Prime Cut’s back to back World ITF Scratching crowns among other titles and held highly as prestigious DJs.

This CD is a powerful compilation of hiphop, dubstep, grime and dance mixed seamlessly in the typical Scratch Perverts style.

Highlights include Jack Beats’ Revolution, Hold On by Rusko & Amber Coffman and Innocence by Nero.

Number 3
The Constant – I Blame Coco (Island)

After my review of the I Blame Coco gig a few weeks ago this album has been highly anticipated by me.

For more on this album see my review. It is a good album although perhaps repetitive in places.

Highlights include Self Machine, Party Bag and It’s About to Get Worse.

Number 2
Magnetic Man – Magnetic Man (Columbia)

Magnetic Man’s self titled album remains in my chart and having been listened to more this week it bumps up to knock out Floorfillers 2010 and Kings of Leon’s Come Around Sundown (which to be honest I found a little samey although still an enjoyable listen).

It’s a great album making an interesting use of instruments, melodies and beats featuring some great, upcoming artists such as Katy B, and Sam Frank and some veterans too including Ms Dynamite and John Legend.

Highlights include Getting Nowhere featuring John Legend, I Need Air featuring Angela Hunte, Flying Into Tokyo, which has an amazing melody and Perfect Stranger featuring Katy B.

Number One
Rave Digger – Danny Byrd (Hosptial Records)

Again hitting at number one, the latest creation from the music producing genious that is Danny Byrd.

See my full review of the album here

Highlights include Ill Behaviour, Tonight featuring Netsky and We Can Have it All.
